Talking to gthx

In a channel, start with the bot’s nick: gthx: or gthx,. In a private message you don’t need to, but it does no harm. Commands marked no nick work without addressing the bot.

Factoids

Short facts the channel teaches the bot, so anyone can ask for them later.

gthx: extruder is the part that pushes the plastic
Sets a factoid. “are” works too (gthx: hotends are hot). Setting it again replaces it.
gthx: extruder is also a motor
Adds another value to a factoid.
extruder? extruder! no nick
Says the factoid. All its values are joined with “and also”.
extruder? | someuser no nick
Says the factoid to someone.
gthx: forget extruder
Forgets a factoid.
info extruder no nick
How often the factoid was asked for, and who set or deleted it when.

Special factoid values

  • Start a value with <reply> and the bot says just the rest.
  • Start it with <action> and the bot does it as a /me action.
  • !who and !channel are replaced by the asker’s nick and the channel.
  • Some factoids are locked and can’t be changed or forgotten.

Things for later, for someone else or for you.

Who’s around, and who isn’t.

When and where someuser last spoke, and what they said. Private messages don’t count.

How many people in the channel have never said anything.

Reminder times

Times are relative, from a minute to a year ahead. Units are seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years; a month is 30 days.

Each nick can have 10 reminders waiting, of up to 400 characters each. When one comes due, gthx posts it right away if you’ve spoken in the last 5 minutes and are still online: in the channel you asked in, or by private message if you’ve left it. Otherwise it reminds you the next time you speak. Reminders survive restarts.
